Fractional COβ Laser is one of the most advanced and effective gold-standard technologies for advanced skin rejuvenation and deep scar revision. Operating at a wavelength of 10,600 nm, the laser energy is strongly absorbed by water molecules within the skin tissue.
Instead of treating the entire skin surface uniformly, the laser beam fractionates into thousands of microscopic thermal zones (MTZs). These micro-beams penetrate deep into the dermis, creating controlled microscopic columns of thermal injury while leaving surrounding tissue completely intact. This stimulates intense fibroblast activity, triggering new collagen and elastin production (collagen remodeling) and complete structural skin regeneration.

2. Contraindications (When Treatment is Prohibited)
To ensure your safety, fractional COβ laser treatment is strictly prohibited or requires specialized medical clearance under specific conditions.
Please inform your clinician if any of the following apply to you:
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Treatment is strictly postponed.
- Systemic retinoid use: Oral isotretinoin (Roaccutane / Accutane) within the past 6 to 12 months.
- Active skin infections & lesions: Active herpes simplex (cold sores), bacterial/fungal infections, eczema, psoriasis, or open wounds in the treatment area.
- Scarring history: History of keloid or hypertrophic scarring.
- Systemic & immune disorders: Uncontrolled diabetes, active autoimmune diseases, immunosuppression, or severe wound healing disorders.
- Bleeding disorders: Recent use of blood-thinning medications or bleeding disorders.
- Allergies: Known hypersensitivity to topical local anesthetics (e.g., lidocaine).
- Other conditions: History of severe pigmentary disorders (e.g., post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation), recent radiation therapy, or photosensitizing medications/herbal supplements.
3. Pre-Treatment Instructions
Proper preparation ensures optimal treatment efficacy and minimizes potential risks.
2β4 Weeks Before Treatment
- Avoid excessive sun exposure, tanning beds, and intentional sun tanning.
- Use a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen daily without exception.
- Do not use fake tanning products on the treatment area.
- Inform your clinician of recent cosmetic procedures (chemical peels, microneedling, dermal fillers, anti-wrinkle injections).
1 Week Before Treatment
- Discontinue exfoliating products including AHAs, BHAs, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, and scrubs.
- Stop using retinol or prescription retinoids.
- Avoid waxing, threading, depilatory creams, or bleaching the treatment area.
- Avoid excessive alcohol consumption for at least 24 hours prior to treatment.
On the Day of Treatment
- Arrive with clean skin free of makeup, sunscreen, moisturizer, perfume, or deodorant.
- Remove contact lenses if the eye area is being treated.
- Eat a light meal and stay well-hydrated.
4. Post-Treatment Aftercare Instructions

Immediately After (First 24β48 Hours)
- A warm, sunburn-like sensation, redness, swelling, and mild discomfort are entirely normal.
- Apply recommended healing ointments or moisturizers as directed by your clinician.
- Use cool compresses (no direct ice) for 10β15 minutes at a time to reduce swelling.
Cleansing & Moisturizing
- Gently cleanse the area with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser and lukewarm water. Pat dry with a clean towel; do not rub.
- Keep the treated area well moisturized using only clinician-recommended products.
Sun Protection & Restrictions
- Avoid direct sun exposure until completely healed. Once advised, apply broad-spectrum SPF 50+ daily.
- Avoid for 48β72 hours: Vigorous exercise, heavy sweating, hot showers, saunas, steam rooms, pools, ocean water, and picking at skin.
- Products to avoid: Retinol, Vitamin C serums, exfoliating acids, benzoyl peroxide, and alcohol-based toners until cleared.
- Makeup: Do not apply makeup until skin surface has completely healed (typically 5β7 days).
5. Normal Healing & Warning Signs

Normal Healing Process
- Redness lasting several days to weeks.
- Mild to moderate swelling around eyes/face.
- Skin dryness, tightness, and temporary bronzing.
- Peeling or flaking from Day 3 to Day 7.

Warning Signs (Contact Immediately)
- Increasing or severe, uncontrollable pain.
- Pus, yellow discharge, or infection signs.
